Textbooks for Ghana schools finally ready; Minister excited

The Minister of Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, has expressed excitement that textbooks for Ghanaian schools are leaving the printing houses to the schools.

He told Alfred Ocansey on Ghana Tonight on TV3 that the textbooks will be ready by the time of reopening.

Currently, All public schools are on vacation for second term and are set to resume for the third term.

Government has been under pressure to provide textbooks for schools after implementing a new curriculum.

Teachers guide and learners guide were provided and Teachers had to prepare their own content themselves. This became a challenge for majority as this level of Teachers are not given any Research allowance.

Most teachers live in communities with poor internet connections or service, searching for information online is very problematic.

This is a relief for teachers as they will now get a standard book from the government for reference.

The Ministry of Education has noted with surprise news publications making rounds, which purport that Government is unable to provide schools with textbooks for the new curriculum until 2024
. The Ministry encourages the public to disregard such false publications, which are merely motivated by the mischief of some individuals and media organizations.
The Ministry of Education is well-informed about the delay in the supply of textbooks at the primary level, who are using the new Standard Based Curriculum, and has been working with the appropriate institutions, including the Public Procurement Authority, Printers, and Publishers, to ensure the delivery of books to the various schools.
