National Teaching Council on March 2024, hosted its 1st Quarter Online Dialogue Series.

Already expired licenses will be renewed in May 2024 regardless of accumulated points.

Addressing the Concerns of Teachers and Stakeholders

The session was led by the Deputy Registrar in charge of Operations, Mr. Lawrence Sarpong.

One of the issues addressed has to do with the CPD points accumulation,

Point Building has been a serious issue among teachers as some are even forced to do CPD workshops.

Teachers on the Rank of SUP II are to obtain 60 CPD points before they qualify for promotion and renewal of license

SUP I 65 CPD Points

Senior SUP II 70 Points

Senior SUP I 75 CPD Points

PS 80 CPD points etc before Promotion and renewal, according to some are disadvantages as not all teachers go for a promotion at the same time.

Due to this and other concerns raised the Council has submitted for validation, the revised CPD Points Building Rubrics.

The new Proposed CPD Points for each teacher are now 20 CPD Per Year.

All teachers regardless of their rank, are to accrue 20 CPD Points for the Year.

60% of the Points Which is 12 CPD Points would be awarded by the employer thus GES,

To get these points, teachers have to Participate in PLC and National CPD Day.

POINTS

Basic Schools

For Teachers in Basic Schools who are currently running the three Terms.

You are to accumulate 2 CPD Points from PLC each Term and for the three terms that would be 6 CPD points Total

Obtain 2 CPD Points each term from CPD Day which also gives a total of 6 Points for the three terms.

Total of 12 Points.

SHS Semester Schools

For SHS Schools running the semester systems.

You are to obtain PLC Points 2 at the beginning of the semester, mid-semester, and End of the semester For Semester 1. Making 6 total CPD Points for the Semester.

Same for Semester Two which would also be 6. Total of 12 for the Year.

The PLC and CPD Day Points are Mandatory Points to be accumulated.

Recommended Training

The 40 % of the CPD points which is 8 CPD Points would be initiated by the teachers themself.

You can do other professional courses within the year and you get a total of 4 CPD Points.

CPD Service providers can also run courses which would give 4 CPD Points thus external Points making a total of 8 CPD Points.

Date to begin

By April hopefully, the Proposal would have been validated for a rollout.

Already Accumulated CPD Points

Some teachers currently may have more than the 20 CPD Points, what the council would do is obtain the 20 Points out of the accumulated ones and may roll over the other accumulated Points provided they meet the criteria.

Relevance of NTC Point Building

The Points Building is very important as it builds you up professionally, Ghana has also been selected as one of the countries the UK, and the USA pull teachers from, Mostly teachers seeking admissions or seeking to teach outside or in these countries are required to bring transcripts of CPD Points accumulated.

This is because the standard set by NTC in Ghana is fully accepted internationally -Mr. Lawrence Sarpong.

The Point building helps teachers to be abreast with current trends in Education and maintain the International Standard of Teaching.

In some instances, other foreign teachers are engaged to help here due to the standards set.

Reluctant to accumulate Points by some Teachers.

The NTC standard and compliance team will start to visit very soon to make sure all teachers comply with point building and standards of teaching.

Portfolio accessors would also come around to ensure teachers are within the Standard or compliance before being allowed to pay to renew their license.

Prices of CPD Workshops

The NTC has regulated the Prices of all workshops,

Face-to-face workshops must not exceed Ghc 75.00 and online workshops must not exceed Ghc 25.00.

Currently, all online CPD workshops are on hold

No one must force you to do any CPD Course, you must do it when you are ready and must meet your 20 Points target when validated.

Teacher Portfolio Building

New Portfolio building rubrics are being developed as most teachers seem not to understand the current rubrics.

The directors are not aware they are to give CPD Points

Directors are trained each year on how to give CPD Points and hence are aware and fully equipped to give CPD Points.

GES PLC APPS

As the GES has developed the CPD APPs the Council is in talks with the Unions and other stakeholders to integrate the PLC Data into the council’s system where all data about the teacher and PLCs taken can be directly obtained.

Wrongful deductions of CPD Points

The National Teaching Council has updated its system where wrongly awarded CPD Points are deducted from the system.

Full Name

License Number

Training title

Registered number and NTC Number

On the Issue of those given Registered numbers and NTC Numbers, your License number is now your NTC Number which starts with the PT if you’re asked to quote your registered number or NTC number kindly quote the one that starts with the PT

Ranks issues

If your rank is not updated, send a message to the NTC and it will be rectified when the necessary documents are added, like the letter that shows you are on the rank, request will be made at the GES to verify before placing you on the Rank.
