The GES encourages all students, parents, and stakeholders to take note of these dates and make necessary preparations. Additionally, the Management of the GES is in dialogue with the Ministry of Education to resolve outstanding concerns raised by the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS).

Concerns from CHASS: A Call for Postponement

Despite the reaffirmation from GES, the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) has requested a postponement of the reopening date, citing unresolved critical challenges:

  1. Outstanding Financial Commitments
    • CHASS has raised concerns over delayed payments for perishables and recurrent fees. Multiple reminders, including letters dated August 12, November 13, and December 20, 2024, were sent to the Ministry of Education and GES, yet no resolution has been reached.
  2. Logistical Issues
    • Difficulties in transporting and accessing essential food supplies from regional depots have added to the operational pressures faced by schools.
  3. Transition Period
    • The reopening date coincides with the transitional phase of a newly elected government, raising questions about continuity in policy and funding.

Recommendations by CHASS

Following an emergency meeting on December 31, 2024, the National Executive Council of CHASS has recommended postponing the school reopening until these issues are adequately addressed. CHASS argues that reopening under current circumstances could compromise education quality and the welfare of students.

What’s Next?

As GES engages with the Ministry to address CHASS’s concerns, stakeholders are advised to stay updated through official channels for any changes to the academic calendar.
