Teacher Unions Negotiation with Government Updates

Teacher Unions Negotiation with Government Updates

Negotiations commenced today, Thursday, April 4th, 2024, at the Ministry of Education (MOE) Conference Room between the government and the Teacher Unions.

However, today’s meeting concluded without reaching a definitive agreement, as both Government and the Teacher Unions were unable to finalize certain matters.

CORRECTION; The meeting has been adjourned to Monday, April 8th, 2024, at 2 pm.

Caution has been advised by the Negotiating Parties regarding the release of unconfirmed or under-discussion issues to the public domain, as this is considered poor labor practice.

Despite this, Union leaders have assured members that they will be fully informed once decisions are finalized.

Union leaders have also addressed certain circulating messages on social media regarding percentages and figures, advising members to disregard them as they do not originate from official sources.

Meanwhile, discussions continue regarding various allowances requested by the Teacher Unions, including Continuous Professional Development, Housing/Rent, and Utility Subsidy Allowances. Government’s concerns about certain allowances such as those related to Deprived Areas, Transport/Commuting, Entertainment, and Assessment for teachers are being debated, with differing perspectives from both sides.

The ongoing negotiations reflect the complexity of the issues at hand, and further updates will be provided as progress is made

The Teacher’s Unions Reacted as they called for immediate Negotiations and in Good Faith to resolve their issues.
