GES Recruitment Slot now Sold For GHS 20K; The Police to Arrest is also Paying -Former U/E Regional Minister

The Former Upper East Regional Minister has brought to light a startling revelation, as reported on Ghanaweb by mynewsgh.com. Allegedly, recruitment slots within the Ghana Education Service (GES) are being sold for a hefty sum of GHS 20,000. The disclosure was made by Prof Avea, a retired academic and prominent member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), during an interview with Bolgatanga-based Dreamz FM.

Prof Avea revealed the disconcerting practice of selling GES appointments, citing instances where individuals could secure a job by paying varying amounts, reaching as high as GHS 20,000. He recounted a personal experience where a student in Kumasi sought his assistance, claiming GES officials demanded a payment of GHS 20,000 for a job placement. Despite the prevalence of such practices, Prof Avea maintained a policy against paying for employment and emphasized not facilitating such payments.

Expressing concern about the situation, Prof Avea stated, “Ordinarily, we should be arresting those people, but the policeman himself is paying for his son. All security services, including the fire service, Immigration, army, and others, are reportedly involved. During our time, district directors were given the authority to recruit, and interviews were conducted at the district level. However, the current scenario involves payments for placements in various sectors, even in nursing.”

The issue of corruption continues to surface, with some cases being investigated by the office of the special prosecutor. This has led to a proliferation of fraudsters advertising on social media and charging exorbitant fees, resulting in numerous individuals being deceived without any trace of accountability.

Ghana Card Security

In light of these developments, questions arise regarding the efficacy of the Ghana Card, particularly its use in SIM registration. The expectation was that the Ghana Card would enhance security and facilitate tracking in cases of fraud. However, the ongoing challenges suggest a need for reevaluation and strengthened measures to address fraudulent activities.
