Govt to reintroduce road tolls in 2025
The government has concluded measures to be reintroduced in 2025.
Finance Minister, Dr Mohammed Amin Adam announced this on Tuesday, July 23 in Parliament during the presentation of the mid-year fiscal policy review for 2024.
On November 18, 2021, the Former Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwasi Amoako-Atta directed that toll collection at the various toll booths across the country be halted.
This directive came after the former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta announced during his 2022 budget presentation that road tolls had been abolished.
However, the government has rescinded its decision and has authorized the development of a framework for reintroducing road and bridge tolls in 2025.
“Mr. Speaker, Cabinet has also granted approval for the disbursement of an additional 1.5 billion Ghana Cedis to settle outstanding claims relating to the financial management companies; the establishment of a framework for the re-introduction of Road and Bridge
Tolls in 2025” he added.
Dr. Amin Adam also mentioned that the government has approved “the operationalization of the integrated property tax system and the amendment of the Fiscal Responsibility Act to reinstate the numeric threshold suspended in 2020.”
