Message from Ag. DG of GES to Heads collecting Monies before school Selection
ILLEGAL COLLECTION OF MONIES FROM JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL (JHS) GRADUATES AND PARENTS FOR SCHOOL SELECTION
The attention of Management of Ghana Education Service (GES) has been drawn to the unethical practice of some Heads of Basic Schools collecting monies from the current batch of Junior High School (JHS) graduates who report to their former schools to select Second Cycle Schools of their choice for placement.
Some of the monies being collected are purported to be payment for;
a) Parent Teacher Association (PTA) Dues/Levies arrears b) Clearance of final year students.
c) Extra classes organized
Management wishes to remind all stakeholders that the collections are illegal and unauthorized. The School Selection Activity is entirely free and as such no levy or fee should be charged in connection with it.
Regional Directors of Education are requested to notify Metro/Municipal/District Directors of Education to caution all Heads of Basic Schools that such extortions are unwarranted and should be stopped forthwith. Any Head teacher/teacher who has made any such illegal collections should refund immediately to the parents. District Directors are to investigate all these allegations and submit reports including sanctions applied to their Regional Directors.
Management of GES wishes to assure the general public that the school selection process does not involve collection of monies. Any such request should be reported to the Regional/District Education office for redress.
Counting on your usual co-operation.
Thank you.
