No Repetition of JHS2 Students – GES To Heads, Here is why

The Ghana Education Service has sent a reminded message to all Head of Schools not to Repeat JHS2 Students for the 2023 Academic Year.

The Ghana Education Service enrolled the Common Core Curriculum Programme which is being used currently, the last batch of Students doing the old Curriculum thus  Objective base Curriculum are to write their BECE this year 2023.

The CCP curriculum is carefully designed to provide learners in Basic 7 to Basic 10 (JHS 1 – SHS 1) with a holistic learning experience to prepare them for post-secondary education, the world of work, or both.

This curriculum is a sequel to the Kindergarten to Primary Standards-Based School Curriculum implementation which commenced with the 2019/2020 academic year.

The current JHS2 will be the First Batch who will write BECE in 2024 using the Standard Base Curriculum.

Repeating any JHS2 thus current JHS 3 Student would mean they will be faced with  an entire new curriculum hence the directive to push all of them through.

Repetition of 2022 Academic Year JHS2 Students for the 2023 Academic year

It has come to the attention of Management of the Ghana Education Service that some Heads of Public Basic schools are repeating the last academic year’s JHS2 students who are progressing to JHS3 this Academic Year.

Management takes serious exception to this practice. This is due to the fact that the current JHS3 students are the last batch of the Objective Based Curriculum who will write BECE this year.

The current JHS2 students are the first batch who will write BECE in 2024 using the Standard Based Curriculum.

In view of the above, all last year’s JHS2 students should progress to JHS3 in order no to disadvantage any Objective Based Curriculum students in the BECE.

Accordingly, Management of GES is requesting Regional Directors of Education to bring the above directives to the attention of Metro/ Municipal/District Directors of Education for Strict compliance by all Heads of Basic Schools.
