Public Sector workers; Continuation on negotiations on Base pay – Invitation

Update on negotiation December, 20th 2022

Fair wages and salary commission respectfully  writes to invite representatives of the Government Team and Labour Unions/Association to a meeting . Date Tuesday  December 20th, 2022 at 2:00 pm, Venue Ministry of Health Conference Room.

The negotiations which started with Public sector Unions demanding for a 60% raise in base pay has seen some up and downs from the government’s side as government plans to give a 18% raise.

Government on Tuesday will bring it’s new percentage raise for unions to accept. Majority of workers fully supports their unions.

The Support, is due to high cost of Living, High inflation and Rapid depreciation of the Ghanaian Cedis.

Today the Ghanaian cedis has seen a major appreciation, the Cedi is Selling at 8.0 to a dollar and buying at 7.9 to a dollar according to the Bank of Ghana’s rate.

The cedi appreciation is not affecting market prices and this has got many worried.

President Akufo-Addo has asked traders in the country to reduce the prices of various goods and services. This comes after the cedi regained its strength. The Ghana cedi in the past week has gained some significant strength against the US dollar with prices of fuel also recording substantial reduction. According to the Bank of Ghana, the local currency is currently trading at GH¢8 on the interbank market with a litre of petrol and diesel selling at GH¢13 and GH¢16 respectively….

Already, workers are not ready to accept the 21% Plus COLA ; Public sector workers Salary Negotiations Click to check comments / reactions.

Any change of mind now, as the cedi has gain some strength from 14.5 to 7.5 is a good gain.

The current appreciation orf the cedi is something temporal which will not last to two months because government have not put in place anything permanent to make the cedi sustainable, so all the unions should keep stand on their feet
