In a much-anticipated development, we are thrilled to share the latest information with you. According to a reliable source, the commencement of negotiations for the new Minimum Wage and Salary for 2024 is set to take place on Tuesday, October 24, 2023.

This critical step towards shaping  of wage negotiations came to fruition during an emergency meeting held between the National Executive Council and the various teacher unions .

The meeting witnessed the active participation of all three teacher unions, where they emphasized the significance of renewing the bargaining certificate.

This renewal is expected to serve as the gateway for teacher unions to commence negotiations aimed at establishing new conditions of service.

Key elements to be addressed in these negotiations include:

Housing/Rent Allowance
Electricity Subsidy Allowance
Fuel Allowance
Hardship Factors/Market Premium
Allowance for Teachers in Deprived Communities
Car/Vehicle Maintenance Allowance, and more.

Importantly, it was agreed that these allowances should be reflected on teachers’ pay slips, ensuring they are not merely informal arrangements.

In line with these developments, the teacher unions have decided to initiate grassroots-level press conferences to generate awareness and support for their demands.

These will be followed by national-level press releases as part of their advocacy efforts.

More detailed briefings and insights are expected to emerge from the teacher unions in the coming days.

All this culminates in the forthcoming meeting between teacher unions and the Fair Wages and Salary Commission on Tuesday, where they will collaborate to determine the new minimum wage for 2024.

Stay tuned for more updates on this significant development.

As workers have already commenced their agitation for a 70% wage increment.
