GES Press Release Today; Appoitment of Deputy Regional Directors of Education – Qualifications

Dear Teachers,

We bring this message to your attention with utmost urgency. The Ghana Education Service, in accordance with the Pre-Tertiary Education Act, 2020, Part I, Section 28, is seeking to appoint Deputy Regional Directors of Education.

This notice is specifically directed towards all interested teachers who participated in the Director II promotion interview during the 2019/2020 cycle and were subsequently invited to the orientation program. It is imperative that these individuals submit the required documentation, as detailed in the attached advertisement, to the Acting Director of Human Resource Management and Development (HRMD),  via angela.ttmponmao@ges.gov.gh.

APPLICATION FOR APPOINTMENT AS DEPUTY REGIONAL DIRECTOR

The Ghana Education Service is pleased to invite applications from qualified individuals with a strong orientation towards goals and results, as well as exceptional leadership qualities, for the position of Deputy Regional Director within the Service.

1. Job Purpose

The primary role of Deputy Regional Directors is to assist the Regional Director in the effective implementation of government-approved pre-tertiary educational policies and to act on behalf of the Regional Director when necessary, in accordance with the Pre-Tertiary Education Act, 2020, Part I, Section 28.

2. Key Duties and Responsibilities

The Deputy Regional Director will be responsible for the following key duties and responsibilities:

a. Providing technical advice to the Director-General on pre-tertiary educational policies and programs at the Regional level.

b. Coordinating the implementation of pre-tertiary educational policies and programs within the Region.

c. Assessing the implementation of pre-tertiary educational policies and programs at the Regional level.

d. Developing systems for monitoring and evaluating policies and programs within the Region.

e. Exercising oversight responsibility for the efficient management of human and material resources within the Ghana Education Service at the Regional level.

f. Ensuring the preparation and submission of annual and other periodic reports for the Region.

g. Implementing performance management policies within the Region.

3. QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

a. A certified professional teacher currently serving in the Ghana Education Service.

b. Demonstrated satisfactory work history, including proven performance and exemplary conduct.

c. Must have been interviewed for promotion to Director II in the 2019/2020 cycle and invited to the orientation program for ‘Potential Directors’.

4. COMPETENCIES

a. Strong leadership, networking, monitoring, and management skills.

b. Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.

c. Outstanding negotiating, lobbying, and conflict management skills.

d. Extensive knowledge and experience in pre-tertiary educational policies and related issues.

e. In-depth understanding of the operations of the Ghana Education Service and allied institutions.

f. Excellent decision-making and problem-solving abilities.

g. Emotional stability and the ability to handle pressure.

h. Good knowledge of public financial management laws and regulations.

i. Exceptional quantitative and qualitative analytical skills.

j. Proficiency in relevant IT applications.

k. High integrity, confidentiality, firmness, and fairness.

l. Strong report writing skills.

5. Mode of Application

a. Interested individuals should submit an application letter expressing their interest in the position of Deputy Regional Director, along with a Confidential Report from their Head of Institution, addressed to the Director-General. Applications should be forwarded to angela.frimponmaa@gesgov.gh within two (2) weeks of the publication of this advertisement.

b. Applicants should also attach evidence of attendance at both the Director II interview and the orientation for ‘Potential Directors,’ as well as their last promotion letter.
