Teachers clash with Headmasters over handwritten lesson notes

Teachers in the Upper West Region of Ghana are up in arms with their headmasters over their refusal to accept electronically prepared lesson notes.

GES Update on Lesson Note Preparation in Basic and Senior High Schools

In a letter by the Ghana Education Service dated February 21, 2022, the Ghana Education Service indicated that it had relaxed the preparation of lesson notes regime and indicated that electronically prepared notes are accepted.

The letter indicated that accepting electronically prepared lesson notes should be agreed upon between two parties ie the teacher and their supervisor in order for teaching and learning to be smooth.

The Education Minister in an interview on Accra-based Peace FM confirmed that since teachers are being provided with laptops, it will be imperative for teachers to prepare their lesson notes electronically, print them out and present them to their headteacher.

“In the past, teachers had to write their lesson notes manually. However, with the provision of laptops, it’s now not compulsory for teachers to write their lesson notes. What will happen is that I’ve asked GES to write to the various headteachers to accept electronically prepared lesson notes. We are in the 21st Century and people cannot keep preparing lesson notes by writing them,” he said.

From our sources in the Upper West Region, MyNewsGh.com has learnt that the Headmasters of the various schools in the region are being supported by the Directors of Education even though there is a Directive from the Ghana Education Service for electronically prepared lesson notes to be accepted.

Teachers in the region who spoke to MyNewsGh.com in anonymity said there is currently a rift between teachers, headmasters and Directors of education in the region due to this development and have called on leaders in education to come in to settle the matter.

It is good to plan before going to class, but wasting time rewriting the same notes to prove you are teaching is not the Best.

We are in a Technological World, We need to appreciate Technology. Teachers must also be given the chance to do other things to be successful, Copying notes won’t make a Teacher, the best Teacher.
