More on Ranking

The UofM’s strength in the scoring methodology was in teaching and research as both categories scored above the median.

The University of Memphis, Vanderbilt University and the University of Tennessee are the only Tennessee universities ranked among the U.S. institutions ranked globally.

“What makes the University of Memphis’ inclusion in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings more impressive is the fact that the world ranking and the U.S. ranking had more institutions competing in the rankings this year,” said Dr. Colton Cockrum, assistant vice provost, Institutional Effectiveness, Accreditation & Academic Assessment at the UofM.

In April, the UofM was ranked in the top 4.9% in the world out of 19,788 universities, according to the 2021-22 edition of the “Global 2000 List by the Center for World University Rankings.”

In September 2020, the University of Memphis was ranked among the world’s top universities for the first time in the 2021 Times Higher Education World University Rankings.

In the most recent U.S. News & World Report rankings for top public universities, the UofM climbed nine spots to No. 126 and is the No. 2-ranked public university in the State of Tennessee.

In March, the UofM received recognition for 26 programs in the 2022 U.S. News & World Report Best Graduate Programs national rankings.
