Update on NTC GTLE Exams 2023 and the GTLE Reforms for 2024;

The registration for the 2022 Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE) 2 is for re-sit candidates and those who completed their education programmes in 2021 or before.

Due to the GTLE reforms which is to be implemented next year, the Council is giving three chances to candidates who are associated with the traditional GTLE (Essential Professional Skills, Literacy and Numeracy) to redeem themselves.

This registration for 2022 GTLE 2 is one of the three chances, the two others will be conducted next year.

After the three chances, there will be no examination for the traditional subjects in 2024 and beyond

. Any candidate of the traditional GTLE who would like to write GTLE again will have to start afresh with the GTLE dispensation in 2024 and beyond.

REFORMS

Historically the papers written were: Essential Professional Skill, Numeracy and Literacy

Under the new reform, the above 3 papers will be put together in 1 paper called GENERAL PAPER and 2 others papers will be added: RELATED PEDAGOGY and TEACHING SUBJECT RELATED PAPER

This indicates that the new three papers are:
1. GENERAL PAPER
2. RELATED PEDAGOGY
3. TEACHING RELATED SUBJECT PAPER

NTC CPD POINTS ACCUMULATION: NTC REGISTRAR COMES CLEAR ON ATTENDING PAID WORKSHOPS

National Teaching Council’s Continuous Professional Development Points.

NTC does not by themselves organize all workshops, instead NTC ACCREDITED SERVICE PROVIDERS normally do so as backed by NTC.

Dr. Christian Addai Poku clarified that teachers are not to attend more than one Training Workshop which is organized by same Service Provider per year.

District Directors of Education and District Training Officers are also allowed to award CPD Points through Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and INSETS etc. AWARD OF CPD POINTS FOR INSETS

Ghana Education Service is also permitted to award 13 CPD Points per year by which 6 CPD Points must be awarded freely as a teacher participates in the Professional Learning Communities.

However, the other 7 CPD Points are to be paid for but at a negotiable price. The implication of this is that the teacher is at the liberty to settle for the CPD Workshop with the lowest price.

NTC has not agreed on any amount with the Service Providers hence, the responsibility of the District Directors of Education to negotiate on behalf of their teachers.

Subject Area Specialization Training or Workshops give more CPD Points than the general workshops.
