Why Entrance Exams into College of Education for Free SHS Graduates ?- Eduwatch
The Executive Director of Africa Education Watch, Kofi Asare, has raised concerns about the Ministry of Education’s decision to introduce an entrance exam in Math and English for free Senior High School graduates with credit passes in these subjects in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
This comes as the Ministry claims trained Teachers can’t write a single sentence
”If fSHS has improved quality, why introduce entrance exam in Math & Eng for fSHS graduates who already have Credit Passes in WASSCE Math & Eng, seeking to enter tertiary Colleges of Educ? Don’t we trust the same WASSCE we used to rate fSHS?” Kofi Asare.
Some says
Entrance exams exist at the law school and existed as an entrance to universities , CoE etc so there is nothing wrong with Government re-introducing it.
Kofi Asare Believes its a normal Practice when standards in SHS are falling, but in this case no one has said the standards are falling, hence Mr. Asare’s question.
Others also believe It’s just a deliberate barrier to control numbers going into the colleges.

I think they simply don’t trust these students. The weak passes that saw most of them into SHS raises a lot of questions. Politicians don’t care about the goodness of the country, even if feeding the citizens with rot will win them votes, they are good to do it.
It’s necessary to write the entrance examinations, to ensure competent ones are admitted.
This is clear an absurd decision the ministry of education is trying to make ,why do we still need an entrance after I have had the required results? This is a deliberate action to reduce the number of students in college.
No need for any such ENTRANCE EXAMINATION for them. Why place all of them into the SHSand later decide to revise the number that proceeds to tertiary institutions with same RESULTS.
Is GOVERNMENTscared of the money to finance their allowances now?
There’s something under the carpet.
No.
It’s waste of precious time and money.
The introduction of the entrance exam would lead to even more malpractices in the universities since some of these school may consider this as a means to get money
Also the wassce would den be of no value therefore rendering it useless and a waste of time
