    Requirements

    While requirements vary for some programs, such as portofolios, auditions, etc., the following are minimum standards.

    A Baccalaureate or Master’s Degree as specified by the program
    Applicants must provide an official transcript showing an earned bachelor’s or master’s degree, depending on program requirements. (Students who received bachelor’s degrees from the University of Memphis may disregard this requirement.) In cases, where a program’s accrediting body allows alternate admissions standards, exceptions may be made.
    The degree must have been awarded by an accredited college or university.
    Only transcripts received directly from an issuing institution are considered official.

    Entrance Examinations*
    Visit the appropriate program in the Graduate School directory for information on which tests and what scores are acceptable. Scores on MAT exams written in less than 2 month intervals are not acceptable.
    *Some programs may waive the entrance examination requirement for applicants with exceptional credentials, extensive professional experience, or a prior graduate degree from an accredited institution. These waivers are at the discretion of the academic program. Check individual program descriptions for details.

    UofM undergraduate students applying to UofM Grad School do not need to request an official transcript. Transcripts from any other college or university attended must be requested as noted in the online application system.
    Only transcripts received directly from an issuing institution are considered official.

    Admissions

    POSTGRADUATE DEGREES AND DIPLOMAS

    Postgraduate Studies shall be categorized under two main headings: namely, full-time and part-time.

    A full-time study shall be completed within a maximum duration of twenty-four months from the date of commencement of the academic year in which the student was enrolled for a master’s programme and thirty-six months for a doctorate programme.

    A part-time study shall be completed within a maximum duration of thirty-six months from the date of commencement of the academic year in which the student was enrolled for a master’s programme and forty-eight months for a doctorate programme.

    PgD/MSc/MPhil/PhD PROGRAMME ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

    A. MSc / MPhil/PhD in Geomatics Engineering

    Applicants must have BSc First Class or Second Class (Upper Division) in Geomatics or Geodetic Engineering or its equivalent in Earth Sciences and related Engineering programmes from a recognised university.
    Holders of UMaT Diploma in the Earth Sciences who hold senior positions in a relevant industry and have at least 5 years of professional experience and proven ability in their discipline are eligible for admission.

    B. MSc / MPhil/ PhD in Geological Engineering

    Applicants must have BSc First Class or Second Class (Upper Division) or it’sits equivalent in Earth Sciences and related Engineering programmes from a recognised university.
    Holders of the UMaT Diploma in the Earth Sciences who hold senior positions in a relevant industry and have at least 5 years of professional experience with proven ability in their discipline are eligible for admission.

    C. PgD/ MSc / MPhil/ PhD in Mining Engineering

    Applicants must have BSc First Class or Second Class (Upper Division) in Mining Engineering, relevant Engineering or Earth Sciences from a recognised University.
    Holders of the UMaT Diploma who have at least 5 years of professional experience and with proven ability in their respective disciplines are eligible for admission.

    D. MSc / MPhil/ PhD in Mineral Engineering

    A BSc First Class or Second Class (Upper Division) or it’s it’s equivalent in Applied Sciences and related engineering programmes.
    Holders of UMaT Diploma in the Earth Sciences, who have at least five (5) years professional experience with proven ability in their discipline are eligible for admission.

    E. MSc/MPhil in Mechanical Engineering

    Applicants must have BSc First Class or Second Class (Upper Division) in Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering and Engineering from a recognised university.
    Holders of UMaT Diploma in Mine Mechanical Engineering or Earth Sciences and related Engineering programmes who hold senior positions in a relevant industry and have at least 5 years of professional experience with proven ability in their discipline are eligible for admission.

    F. MSc/MPhil/ PhD in Electrical and Electronic Engineering

    Applicants must have BSc First Class or Second Class (Upper Division) or its equivalent in Electrical and/or Electronic Engineering or related Engineering disciplines from a recognised University.
    Holders of UMaT Diploma in Mine Electrical Engineering who hold senior positions in a relevant industry and have at least 5 years of professional experience with proven ability in their discipline are eligible for admission.

    G. MSc/MPhil/PhD in Mathematics

    Applicants must have BSc First Class or Second Class (Upper Division) or its equivalent in Mathematics or related Engineering disciplines from a recognized University.
    Holders of UMaT Diploma in Mathematics who hold senior positions in a relevant industry and have at least 5 years of professional experience with proven ability in their discipline are eligible for admission.

    H. MSc/MPhil/PhD in Petroleum Engineering

    Applicants must have BSc First Class or Second Class (Upper Division) or its equivalent in Petroleum Engineering or related Engineering disciplines from a recognized University.
    Holders of UMaT Diploma in Petroleum Engineering who hold senior positions in a relevant industry and have at least 5 years of professional experience with proven ability in their discipline are eligible for admission.

    All applicants to our full-time and sandwich graduate programmes are required to pass a selection interview to be conducted by the relevant Department of the University.

    1. Possess Researched Master’s Degree in the relevant field of study from an accredited institution.
    2. Obtain Cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.0 or above in the course offered at the Master’s level.
    3. Have at lea ast grade “B” in the thesis/dissertation presented for the Master’s degree.
    4. Submit a research proposal of not less than 3000 words.
    5. Pass a selection interview.
    • Applicants who wish to offer PhD in Mathematics Education and Ph.D. in Science Education must hold Researched Master’s degree in Mathematics Education and Science Education respectively.

    Applicants should:

    1. Possess a researched-based Master’s degree not below a 3.0 GPA from any recognised university in related field of study.
    2. Demonstration of English competencies from an institution that conducted instruction in English or an equivalent of 100 and above TOEFL scores.
    3. Computer literacy demonstrated by ease of use of Microsoft applications, Google applications and at least one data analytic software (e.g. SPSS, NVIVO, MPlus, SAS, LISREL etc.
    4. Three (3) letters of recommendation, with at least one from a person who has been your research supervisor, and one from an instructor.
    5. Writing sample/portfolio
    6. Personal statement
    7. A satisfactory performance of 70% and above in a screening interview organized by the Department.

    i. MA. Art Education (Regular/Weekend/Sandwich)

    Candidates must have a BA, BFA or B.Ed (minimum of Second Class (Lower Division)) degree in any Visual Arts discipline. Candidates must have at least 60% in Research Methodology and Thesis Writing at the undergraduate level. At least one-year teaching or school administration
    experience would be an advantage.

    ii. MPhil. Art Education (Regular/Weekend)

    Candidates must have a BA, BFA or B.Ed (minimum of Second Class (Lower Division)) degree in any Visual Arts discipline. Candidates must have at least 60% in Research Methodology and Thesis Writing at the undergraduate level. Candidates must submit a research proposal on an
    appropriate topic that is relevant to teaching, learning, and administration of the Arts, Vocational or General Education. Candidates must pass an entrance examination and interview with a minimum of 65%.

    iii. MPhil. Art Education (Top-Up)
    Candidates must have a MA, MFA, or MComm from a recognised university. Candidates must submit a research proposal on an appropriate topic that is relevant to teaching, learning, and administration of the Arts, Vocational or General Education. Candidates must pass an entrance examination and interview with a minimum of 65%.

    iv. Master of Education (M.Ed.) – General Education (Regular/Sandwich)

    Candidates must have a BSc, BA, BFA or B.Ed. (minimum of Second Class (Lower Division)) degree in an appropriate field of study from a recognised university. Candidates must have a minimum of 60% in Research Methodology and Thesis writing at the undergraduate level. Candidates with at least one year of classroom teaching or school administration experience
    would be at an advantage. A candidate who does not satisfy the requirement stated above but is otherwise adjudged suitable by the Department Board, shall, where practicable, be interviewed and in addition, may be required to take an entrance examination.

    v. MSc. Educational Innovation and Leadership Science (Regular/Sandwich)

    Candidates must have a BA, BFA or B.Ed. (minimum of Second Class (Lower Division)) degree in any discipline. Candidates must have a minimum of 60% in Research Methodology and Thesis writing at the undergraduate level. Candidates must have at least one-year of classroom

Candidates must also submit a comprehensive research proposal on an appropriate topic in any Visual Arts discipline or
    Arts Administration. Candidates must pass an entrance examination and interview with a minimum of 70%.

    2. Department of Teacher Education

    i. MPhil. Educational Planning and Administration

    Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree with a CGPA of 3.0 or CWA of 60 or above in any Education discipline or related field. Candidates with a good Bachelor’s degree in a non-education related area but has PGD in Education or Diploma in Education OR Candidates with MEd/MSc/MA in Educational Administration or any related area (without research) from a recognized university with a CGPA of above 2.5 and have taken and passed a course in
    Research Methods may enrol on the programme.

    ii. MPhil. Mathematics Education

    Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree with a CGPA of 3.0 or a CWA of 60 or better in Mathematics Education or any related discipline. Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree with a CGPA of 3.0 or CWA of 60 or better in Mathematics or any related discipline and has an MEd in Education, PGD in Education or Diploma in Education may enrol on the programme.

    Candidates with MEd/MSc/MA in Mathematics Education or any related area (without research) from a recognized university with a CGPA of above 2.5 or CWA of 60 may enrol on the programme.

    iii. MPhil. Language Education and Literacy

    Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree with a CGPA of 3.0 or a CWA of 60 or better in any Language Education related discipline from a recognised university. Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree with a CGPA of 3.0 or CWA
    16 of 60 or better in any Language related discipline from a recognised university and has an MEd in Education, PGD in education or Diploma in Education may enrol on the programme.     iv. MPhil. ICT Education

    Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree with a CGPA of 3.0 or CWA of 60 or better in any ICT in Education related discipline from a recognised university. Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree with a CGPA of 3.0 or CWA of 60 or better in any ICT-related discipline from a recognised university and has a MED in Education, PGD in education or Diploma in Education may enrol on the programme. Candidates with an MEd/MSc in any ICT-related discipline without research from a recognized university with a CGPA of above 2.5 or CWA of 60 and has an MEd in Education, PGD in education or Diploma in Education may enrol on the programme.

    v. MPhil. Science Education

    i. MEd. Higher Education Pedagogy (HEP)

    Candidates with a non-education bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with a CGPA of 2.5 or a CWA of 50.0 which is second-class lower or better. Candidate MUST be a lecturer, tutor or instructor in a tertiary institution.

    ii. Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE)

    Candidates have a non-education bachelor’s degree with a CGPA of 2.5 or a CWA of 50.0 which is second-class lower or better. Candidates should be a teacher or have the intention of being professional teachers at any level of Ghana’s education system.

    iii. MEd. Educational Planning and Administration (Sandwich)
