Beware of New MoMo Scam Tactics

SCAM ALERT 🚨!!!

Stay vigilant! Scammers are continually devising new methods to ensnare unsuspecting victims.

While you’re diligently earning your money, scammers are tirelessly scheming to take it from you without lifting a finger.

Types of MoMo Fraud:

1. Phishing Scams: Cybercriminals impersonate trusted MoMo service providers, urging you to click on malicious links to steal sensitive information.

2. Sim Swap Fraud: Scammers coerce mobile network providers into transferring your phone number to a new SIM card under their control. This allows them to intercept MoMo verification codes and gain unauthorized access to your account.

3. Social Engineering: This prevalent scam involves scammers contacting you via phone or text, posing as acquaintances, relatives, or MoMo representatives. They request money transfers using various pretexts, such as falsely claiming to have sent money to your phone mistakenly or coercing you into providing verification codes under false pretenses.

4. Fake MoMo Agents: Cybercriminals masquerade as MoMo agents or representatives, purportedly offering assistance with transactions. However, their true intent is to deceive and pilfer funds from unsuspecting individuals.

Illustrative Scam Encounter:

Here’s a recent encounter shared by a victim:

“I received an unfamiliar call on my MTN Ghana network. The caller claimed to be an MTN agent, insisting that they had mistakenly sent me GH₵200 and requested its immediate return.

Skeptical, I informed them that I hadn’t received any such alert. Suddenly, a message popped up on my phone purportedly from MTN MoMo.
