UCC refutes false claims of Operation in Nigeria

UCC refutes false claims of Operation in Nigeria

The University of Cape Coast (UCC) has issued a media release to refute false claims circulating on social media that the university’s operations have been banned in Nigeria.

The university clarifies that it has no outlet or campus in Nigeria and has not granted any franchise for its programs in the country. All international students, including Nigerians, interested in studying at UCC apply directly to the university.

The release criticizes the media for hastily spreading misinformation without verification and incorrectly associating the university with a different institution (Cape Coast University – CCU).

Emphasizing its solid academic reputation, the university reassures stakeholders that it is committed to maintaining its status as the top university in Ghana and West Africa, as per the 2024

Times Higher Education World University Rankings.

The release urges individuals and institutions to verify the authenticity of certificates claimed to be issued by UCC and calls on the public to disregard the misleading publication.

The statement is signed by Major Kofi Baah-Bentum (Rtd), the Director of the Directorate of Public Affairs at UCC.

UNIVERSITY OF CAPE COAST
RE: UCC OPERATIONS IN NIGERIA BANNED

Cape Coast, Thursday, 4th January 2024: The attention of Management of the
University of Cape Coast (UCC) has been drawn to a false news item on
Ghanaweb, indicates that the operations of the University of Cape Coast have
been banned in Nigeria.

The University wishes to refute the allegations as follows:
1. The University of Cape Coast (UCC) does not have any outlet or campus
operating in Nigeria nor has it granted a franchise to any institution in
Nigeria to run its programs.

2. All international students, including Nigerians, wishing to study at UCC
apply directly to the University for consideration.

3. It is interesting to note that, in a haste to drag the image of the University
in the mud, Ghanaweb, with little information and without crosschecking,
quickly ran to the market with the name of a certain Cape Coast University
(CCU) to represent the solid brand of the University of Cape Coast (UCC).

4. Management wishes to assure its cherished stakeholders and the general
public that the University holds very dear its solid brand as an excellent
an academic institution with worldwide acclaim and, for that matter, would
not do anything untoward to tannish its hard-won reputation as the
Number One University in Ghana and West Africa, and the Seventh in
Africa, according to the 2024 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings.

5. We would entreat all persons and institutions, as we have always done, to,
at all times, verify with the university, the authenticity of the certificates
purported to have been issued by the University of Cape Coast.

In the light of the above, Management wishes to entreat its stakeholders and the
general public to disregard the malicious publication.
