Leadership of organised labour to meet Akufo-Addo
The leadership of Organised labour has called on workers to remain calm as it meets with President Akufo-Addo within the next seventy-two hours to address the issues related to the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT).
Leadership of the union says the meeting with the President may discuss appointment onto the Board of SSNIT and its investments which have not yielded much returns.
The Secretary-General of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) Dr Yaw Baah who spoke exclusively to our labour correspondent Daniel Opoku, insisted that they will be firm to reverse the sale agreement.

He stressed that “the sale is immoral and unacceptable.”
Already, some workers are disturbed that they may lose their pension funds due to the happenings at SSNIT. But the Secretary-General asked them to remain calm.
“I would like to assure all workers of this country that SSNIT will pay all their pension when they retire and that is why we want to meet the President and we will make sure SSNIT acts well”.
“We have a number of issues to discuss with the President. Issues about SSNIT is very important issue, we will go to him, this is not the first time to have engagement with him, sometimes he makes time for us- two hours, and we know he will meet us”.
“We have petitioned the Chief of Staff, the Minister of Pension, we are very important stakeholders and I don’t think they will ignore us. This is not about us fighting the Board. All the board members know that what we are fighting is not for us,” he said.
Chairman of The Forum, Dr Bampoe Addo cautioned politicians to halt any attempt to abuse the use of pension funds.
“The bashing of politicians on pension funds must stop and the thing we must all be aware is that pension funds are not government funds, since the funds are for members, we must control the SSNIT Board”.
