We are pleased to share the latest development from the Ghana Education Service (GES), which has recently released funds for Academic Intervention. To ensure a fair and transparent distribution, clear directives have been issued, marking a significant improvement over past years where some teachers had to advocate for their rightful share.
TRANSFER AND DISBURSEMENT OF ACADEMIC INTERVENTION FUND
The guidelines for the distribution of the Academic Intervention Fund are as follows:
DISTRIBUTION RATIOS:
Day Schools:
Management: 5%
Teaching: 75%
Non-Teaching: 20%
Boarding Schools:
Management: 5%
Teaching: 70%
Non-Teaching: 25%
The distribution ratios outlined above reflect a thoughtful consideration of the specific needs of both day and boarding schools, ensuring that the funds are allocated appropriately across different categories of staff.
IMPORTANT POINTS TO NOTE:
Tax Deductions: Income Tax has already been deducted in bulk at the GES Headquarters, simplifying the process for individual schools.
Special Consideration for Kitchen Staff: Special attention should be given to the kitchen staff, recognizing their vital role in the school community.
Endorsement by School Management: These allocations should be endorsed by the Head and Accountant of each school. The term “School Management” includes the Head, Assistants, Senior Housemaster/Mistress, ensuring a comprehensive approach to endorsement.
Equity Concerns: If any school feels that the distribution ratios compromise equity and fairness, they are encouraged to refer to the Chief Accountant of GES Headquarters for resolution.
Committee Formation: Each Cost Centre Manager is required to set up a committee responsible for sharing the allocated amount among staff. This committee should clearly indicate the amount each staff member is allocated and submit the information to the Director-General through [email protected] before funds are transferred.
These directives aim to streamline the process, alleviate past challenges, and ensure that the Academic Intervention Fund serves its intended purpose of supporting educational excellence.
