Teacher Unions Declare Nationwide Demonstration Against New Electricity VAT

13TH FEBRUARY, 2024 NATIONWIDE DEMONSTRATION AGAINST 15% VAT ON
ELECTRICITY CONSUMPTION

Following a meeting held on Friday, 2nd February, 2024 at the Trade Union Hall in Accra, Leadership
of Organised Labour decided to embark on a nationwide demonstration against government’s
directive to ECG and NEDCo to start the implementation of 15% VAT on residential consumption of
electricity.

GNAT as a prominent member of Organised Labour participated and agreed to the decision at the
meeting to embark on a nationwide demonstration against the imposition of this insensitive tax.
We are by this letter directing all our Regional Secretariats to join Organised Labour in their
respective Regions in preparation towards this mammoth demonstration scheduled for Tuesday, 13th
February, 2024 at all the Regional capitals.

NATIONWIDE DEMONSTRATION BY ORGANISED LABOUR AGAINST THE 15%
VAT ON ELECTRICITY CONSUMPTION

Organised Labour has decided to embark on a nationwide demonstration on Tuesday 13th
February, 2024 against Government decision to charge 15% Value Added Tax (VAT) on
residential consumption of electricity.

CCT Ghana, as a member of Organised Labour was part of this decision to embark on this
demonstration to demand for the reversal of same by Government to charge this regressive tax
on Ghanaians.

We therefore call on all our Officers to join Organised Labour in the preparation for this
nationwide demonstration scheduled to take place on 13th February, 2024 across the country.

Regional Chairmen, bring this notice to all Officers and members all levels and prepare them
for this massive demonstration on the said date at the Regional capitals.
