Exploring WAEC Liberia Examinations and Results for LPSSCE, LJHSCE, and LSHSCE

Discovering the WAEC Assessment System in Liberia

The educational landscape in Liberia is enriched by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), which plays a pivotal role in coordinating examinations for both primary and secondary levels of education.

This council oversees government-funded and numerous private schools, administering vital examinations such as the Liberia Primary School and Secondary School Certificate Examinations.

Comparable to Ghana’s BECE for Basic Schools and WASSCE for SHS/SHTS, the Liberian National Standardized Test (NTS) evaluates selected grades in primary schools. WAEC Liberia’s international examination offering is the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), replacing the SC/GCE Ordinary and GCE Advanced Level examinations.

Primary and Secondary Examination Coordination

Government-funded and private schools in Liberia both participate in the administration of crucial examinations. These encompass the Liberia Junior High School Certificate Examination, Liberia Senior High School Certificate Examination, and the West African Senior School Certificate Examination.

Liberia Primary School Certificate Examination (LPSCE)

The Liberia Primary School Certificate Examination (LPSCE) targets 6th-grade students, akin to Basic Six, and is conducted annually in May. The examination date is communicated through the Ministry of Education ahead of the school year. Similar to NST.

Subjects covered in this assessment include

Mathematics,

General Science,

Language Arts, and

Social Studies.

To obtain an LPSCE, candidates must excel in at least three out of these four subjects. Successful candidates are bestowed with certificates.

Liberia Junior High School Certificate Examination (LJHSCE)

LJHSCE, similar to Ghana’s BECE, is held annually in May for 9th-grade students. The Ministry of Education communicates the exact examination date.

The examination covers subjects like Mathematics, General Science, Language Arts, and Social Studies. Just like in the LPSCE, candidates need to pass at least three out of the four subjects to secure a Liberia Junior High School Certificate.

The following are the subjects available to candidates for BECE :

English Language
Ghanaian Language and Culture
Social Studies
Integrated Science
Mathematics
Basic Design and Technology
Religious & Moral Education
Information and Communications Technology
French (optional)

Liberia Senior High School Certificate Examination (LSHSCE)

For 12th-grade students, both regular and private, the Liberia Senior High School Certificate Examination (LSHSCE) takes place in May. The examination schedule is communicated through the Ministry of Education.

To earn a Liberia Senior High School Certificate, candidates must excel in at least six subjects, including mandatory Core Subjects and a subject from each of two additional groups.
