Government Approves Higher Monthly Allowance for National Service Personnel

The National Service Scheme (NSS) has succeeded in obtaining government approval for an increase in the monthly allowances for National Service Personnel (NSPs) from GHe559.04 to GH 715.57, effective from January, 2023. This significant adjustment was made possible through extensive discussions and negotiations between the NSS, Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, and the Ministry of Finance.

The approval was communicated to the NSS through a letter dated July 18th, 2023, signed by the Deputy Minister for Finance, Hon. Abena Osei-Asare (MP). The letter also directs the Controller and Accountant-General to implement the new allowance rates for NSPs.

Arrears

As a result of this development, all NSPs currently in active service will be entitled to receive arrears reflecting the difference in the adjusted allowance rates from January 2023. Management emphasizes the need for patience among NSPs as the necessary administrative processes are being finalized to ensure the prompt payment of these arrears.

This adjustment in the monthly allowance is a significant boost to the NSPs, recognizing their invaluable contributions to national development. It is hoped that this increased financial support will enhance the welfare and well-being of the NSPs, allowing them to fully focus on their service duties without financial constraints.

The NSS management expresses its gratitude to the government for approving this upward adjustment, which ultimately aims to improve the overall experience of NSPs during their national service. With the new allowance rates in place, NSPs can look forward to a more equitable and rewarding service experience.
