“Presidential Pause: Ghana’s Human Sexual Rights and Values Bill on Hold Amidst Legal Wrangle”
The Office of the President of Ghana received notice of the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, 2024, during a Cabinet Retreat on March 14, 2024.
However, they are aware of pending applications for injunctions filed in the Supreme Court against transmitting the bill to the President.
The Attorney-General advised against any action until the court resolves the matter.
The Office emphasized the need to maintain the status quo ante during legal proceedings and requested Parliament to refrain from transmitting the bill until the Supreme Court makes its decision.
The communication was directed to the Clerk to Parliament and copied to various government officials, including the Vice President, Chief of Staff, Attorney-General, and Majority Leader.
