What is the difference between a university hall and a university hostel?
A university hall and a university hostel are both residence options for students attending university or College.
The main difference between the two is that university halls are managed by the university, while university hostels are privately owned and managed.
Most University Hostels are off-campus but few are on- Campus.
University halls tend to have more amenities such as larger common areas, gyms, and study rooms, as well as more strict regulations (such as noise and curfews) to provide students with a safe and secure environment.
Since Every Student especially Freshers is all Affiliated and Assigned to Halls, Some Continuous students may not get Accommodation at the Halls are will be forced to go to Hostels.
University hostels tend to be more expensive in Ghana, in other Countries they are less Expensive. Some have some luxurious amenities whiles others have less depending on the Amount you pay.
Hostels are also less regulated than halls, and provide students with a more independent living environment.
Number of students in a Room
Most of the University halls Accommodate 4 Students in a room, and some take even 6 students in a room.
Your Electricity Bill, Water Bill are all-inclusive in the Fees you pay.
There are Beds with mattresses, all you need is your Pillow and Bed Sheets. Don’t forget Your Mosquito Nets.
For Hostels, you can get one in a room, two in a room, or even six in a room, all depending on your Pocket. In Most Hostels, you pay for utilities yourself.
Factors to consider in Selecting a University Hall or Hostel.
In selecting a university Hall; UCC Hall, the university Automatically assigns Students to Halls during Admissions and these are based on where the students’ lecture halls are.
So, depending on your Programme, the university assigns the Halls.
Even though the University assigns Halls closer to your lecture halls and Faculty, prepare to go far for Some General Courses.
Some of the Faculty Blocks may even be far from your hall of residence and you may be forced to drive or pick up call to lectures.
For Hostels, it doesn’t matter, they are situated everywhere, provided you have your money you can rent them. you must consider the fact that the further the hostel is from your lecture halls the more you spend on transport.
How to Select Your UCC Hall and Pay Fees
After payment of fees, admitted students are expected to receive text messages containing students’ registration numbers and passwords which should be used to create students’ portal accounts.
You should visit the student portal and log into the portal using the registration number and the password which should be kept safe and secure.
Students are requested to select their rooms in the Students Portal.
