Teachers have always asked for Review of their Collective Agreement with the Government as the Agreement over the years saw many violations.
Teachers Salary; according to Some few Teachers, the salary is actually not bad but there are no allowances and this makes the Ghanaian Teacher Handicap.
Re-visiting the Collective Agreement for Teachers (2020 Agreement) we saw more than 20 Allowances and benefits entitled to the Teacher. Check more here Approved Rates of allowances for Teaching Staff within GES
These allowances are not paid to the Teachers just some few, other workers may not complain of their salary because they are well compensated with other allowances which see them through.
The Teaching Job is not a Joke. Molding Human Resource.
During the Base pay negotiations, a poll run by Seekersnewsgh shows that, Teachers would be happy with the increment of the Base Pay but that is not what they want, they want allowances like their Class mates, their Course Mates, their friends in other institutions. Teacher Unions after the Confirmation on the Collective Agreement have to come and fight again for some individual items Agreed Upon in the Collective Agreement.
Allowance for Teachers in Rural Areas ; Rural Area allowances for Teaching Staff within GES,
Because of the Situation there, a whole School may be managed by a single Teacher. These allowance may entice some to accept postings to such areas.
And the Appointment of Dr. Eric Nkansah who according to teacher unions is not a Teacher but a Banker -Teacher Unions rejects Banker as the Director of GES; the Unions said they specifically bargain for that reserved Position for Teachers who move up the Ranks. Review of Collective Agreement
The Teacher Unions sends letter to the Chief Executive of Fair Wages and Salary Commission for the Review of the Collective Agreement for Teaching Staff Within the Ghana Education Service.
The letter Reads
Pursuant to section 41.1 of the Collective Agreement for teaching Staff within the Ghana Education Service (GES) document which came into effect, August 2020 and Stipulates that;
There shall be General Reviewing of this Collective Agreement after every three (3) years.
We the Teacher Unions – i.e The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), The National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) and the Coalition of Concern Teachers Ghana (CCT_GH), write to draw your attention that the said collective Agreement document will run its scheduled three(3) years span in August 2023, and therefore need to be reviewed.
We would therefore be grateful if you would set the necessary machinery in motion so that we meet to undertake the said review, As soon as Possible.

I wish they add the Medical Allowance because most of the teachers do not go to the hospital with their little Salary give to them. Standing alone is not an easy task. Thank you
I think our Union leaders should fight for the retention premium. At least 30% of our basic salary will not be bad.

4. Build well furnished bungalows for Basic school teachers.
5. Unions should design a compulsory housing scheme for both SHS Basic school teachers. Operation get your land and bear the cost. 3 bedroom self contained. The teacher provides his or her own plan. Housing plan more than the stipulated one you bear the cost of the rest.
Marking allowance, research allowance for teachers will help
PDA should be 15% percentage of our salary
Car maintenance/ kilometric allowance
Rent allowance
Risk allowance
Clothing allowance
Automatic promotion
Market premium/ retention premium 55% (like health workers )
I would have wished that risk allowance is added to the allowances mentioned.
